2004 ABIM Recertification Examinations in Internal Medicine, its Subspecialties, and Added Qualifications
The ABIM Recertification Program, renamed the Program for Continuous Professional Development (CPD), consists of an at-home, open-book Self-Evaluation Process (SEP) and an examination which will be administered twice each year in May and November. To register for the examination, Diplomates must be enrolled in the CPD Program and be in at least year 6 of their certification cycle.

WEGENER'S GRANULOMATOSIS ETANERCEPT TRIAL
A multicenter, randomized trial of etanercept (combined with conventional treatment) versus placebo (combined with conventional treatment). WGET is funded jointly by the National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal, and Skin Diseases and the Food & Drug Administration's Office of Orphan Products Development. Experimental medication (etanercept/placebo) provided for patients enrolled. CHARLES E. CULPEPER SCHOLARSHIPS IN MEDICAL SCIENCE
Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships is currently accepting applications for its 2005 Charles E. Culpeper Scholarships in Medical Science Program to support the career development of academic physicians.
Up to three awards of $100,000 per year for three years will be made to United States medical schools or equivalent United States educational institutions on behalf of candidates who are US citizens or aliens who have been granted permanent US residence (proof required), who have received their MD degree from a US medical school or the equivalent of an MD degree from an educational institution equivalent to a United States medical school in 1996 or later (except under extraordinary circumstances, as approved by Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships before submittal) and who are judged worthy of support by virtue of the quality of their research proposals and their potential for successful careers in academic medicine. All scientific research relevant to human health is eligible for consideration; research that has relevance to cures for human disease is highly encouraged. No institution may nominate more than one candidate.
In selecting awardees, emphasis will be on identifying young physicians with clear potential for making substantial contributions to science as academic physicians. Since January 1988, 56 physicians have been selected as Charles E. Culpeper Medical Scholars.
Deadline for applications is August 16, 2004. Awards will be announced in January 2005, for activation on or about July 1, 2005.
